GOLDEN GATE AWARDS

Beginning with the first San Francisco International Film Festival in 1957, the Golden Gate Awards have recognized and promoted excellence in world cinema. For decades, they have introduced a wide array of independent documentary features, animation and experimental short films to a discerning Bay Area audience. We are very proud of the distinguished list of filmmakers who have traveled to San Francisco (and the many who reside here) to share their reflections and commitment to the art of filmmaking with such engaged and enthusiastic audiences.

The prestige of the Golden Gate Awards has steadily grown over the years, in large part due to the expertise of members of our vital and dedicated Bay Area film and video community. These dedicated filmmakers, journalists, exhibitors, curators and academics devote hours of their valuable time to screen hundreds of entries. Each submission is evaluated by prescreening committees and panels who then nominate works as Official Selections. Three juries will view these works at the Festival and bestow Golden Gate Awards on films in 14 categories.

Through the Festival we hope to increase the attention, resources and support for these worthy film- and videomakers, and we invite you to join us in celebrating their accomplishments.
